GENERAL MANAGER, SOUTHERN REGION

BABALOLA SUNDAY OLALEKAN

Babalola Sunday Olalekan, is a goal driven, inventive and dynamic professional with area of expertise spanning telecommunication and ICT spheres. Prior to taking on the role of the company’s current general manager, southern region; he was an assistant general manager, network planning and design with a functional portfolio of managing network expansion programs and link restoration within tasking timelines.

His career in telecoms boast a rich graph of service, as lead engineer and supervisor on all stages of multiple projects delivery including planning & design; integration & commissioning; operations & management; contract negotiations and the development of service agreements. It is also worthy of note that he was at different intervals, involved in the early of deployment of 2G and 3G networks – delivering hundreds of BTS/TX turnkey sites for various network operators in Nigeria, and on the African continent.

Babalola, was for a number of years, a senior transmission engineer at Huawei Technologies where he led a team on the planning, design and delivery of  WDM long haul backbone and metro projects in and outside, Nigeria. Subsequently, he handled maintenance and operations as well as the delivery of CDMA, national backbone and metro transmission projects for Multilinks, Starcomms, 21st Century, and Dancom Technologies.

Sandy (as he is fondly called) having begun his journey as a transmission specialist at Dangote Group in the Alheri/ Dancom Technologies business unit experienced a meteoric rise to the position of transmission manager within three months due to his tenacity, customer centrism and innovativeness. It was there that he also honed is skill in network planning and integration, financial systems management (OPEX and CAPEX) as well as the construction and commissioning of fiber optic/transmission network albeit overseeing operation and maintenance services for all business units within Dangote Group. Thus, he ingeniously managed the capacity needed from fiber and equipment vendors and consultants in – house, to achieve a remarkable feat of reducing operational expenses by more than 70%.

Charged with the responsibility of the company’s overall success in the southern region and operating from its Lagos office; he continues to champion Phase3’s regional growth drive, team efficiency, expansion models and strategies that enable business agility as well as help the business sustain valuable and resourceful telecommunications cum technology partnerships.

Olalekan holds a B. Tech in Physics Electronics from Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State and a post-graduate diploma  in Technology Management (NACETEM) from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile – Ife, Osun State with professional certifications in project management and health, safety & environment at Huawei International.
