Phase3 and Laser Light Africa to Deliver Infrastructure-as-a-Service Across the Accra–Lagos Corridor

May 4, 2025 | Abuja, Nigeria – Phase3 Telecom, West Africa’s leading independent fiber optic infrastructure and telecommunications services provider, has partnered with Laser Light Africa, a subsidiary of Laser Light Companies, to introduce an innovative Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) offering across the 600km terrestrial fibre route between Lagos, Nigeria, and Accra, Ghana.

This strategic initiative—branded as “Fiber Meets AI”—marks a significant milestone in delivering scalable, low-latency compute and storage capabilities to one of Africa’s most densely populated and underserved digital corridors.

Powering Africa’s Digital Acceleration

With the planned installation of a series of micro data centers along the Phase3-owned route, the partnership will enable hyperscalers, communications service providers (CSPs), and enterprises to deploy secure, flexible cloud extensions closer to end users—enhancing performance, reducing latency, and improving overall service quality for emerging AI and real-time applications such as gaming.

“This corridor is experiencing the highest rate of urban growth in Africa and is projected to be home to over 50 million people by 2027,” said Craig Lowe, Chief Growth Officer at Phase3. “Our collaboration with Laser Light directly addresses the digital demands of this fast-growing market—by enabling next-generation services through secure, high-speed, and resilient connectivity infrastructure.”

Micro Data Centers + Space-Based Redundancy

Targeting service readiness in the first half of 2026, the initiative leverages secured electrical substations along Phase3’s aerial fiber infrastructure to rapidly scale capacity and expand services into neighboring ECOWAS markets.

Laser Light will also complement the terrestrial deployment with space-based redundancy via its soon-to-launch all-optical satellite constellation, further fortifying network reliability and coverage across the region.

A Shared Commitment to Transformation

“Phase3’s pioneering deployment of fiber on high-voltage transmission lines offers unmatched advantages in security, reach, and cost-efficiency,” said Derek Friend, President SADC Region, Laser Light Africa. “Their established infrastructure and regional expertise make them an ideal partner to realize our shared vision of bringing cutting-edge digital infrastructure to Africa.”
